What Microsoft 365 Business Standard Includes — and What It Does Not

Microsoft 365 Business Standard includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, plus SharePoint and OneDrive with 1 TB of cloud storage per user, on desktop, web, and mobile. Each person can install the apps on five computers, five tablets, and five phones. Every Edward Technology plan includes this license for every user. What it does not include is just as important to understand.
What is inside the box
The full desktop Office apps, not web-only versions. Business email through Exchange Online. Teams for meetings and chat. A terabyte of file storage per person that syncs everywhere. For most 10-to-75-person offices, that is the whole productivity layer in one license.
What is not inside the box
Advanced device management and the deeper endpoint security tooling sit in higher tiers or alongside the license. Nobody configures it for you. Default settings are built for everyone on Earth, which means they are tuned for no one, and attackers know the defaults better than most owners do.
A license is not a managed platform
Buying Business Standard gets you seats. It does not get you security defaults hardened, mailboxes migrated, new hires set up on day one, departed employees locked out the same day, or a human answering how-do-I questions. That gap between licensed and managed is where most Microsoft 365 problems live.
The backup assumption that costs businesses
Microsoft protects its service, not your mistakes. Deleted items age out and ransomware syncs to the cloud like any other change. Separate backup of mail, OneDrive, and SharePoint closes a gap most owners assume was never open.
The bottom line
Business Standard is the right license for most small businesses, and it is one ingredient, not the meal. Call 847.737.8111. The complimentary onsite evaluation includes a licensing review that says, in writing, whether you are over-licensed, under-secured, or exactly right.
