How Barrington Hills Country Club Got Poolside WiFi and Ordering, Open by Memorial Day

For its new pool, Barrington Hills Country Club wanted something it had never had: full WiFi over the deck and a poolside ordering system. Edward Technology joined at the blueprint stage, and three months later the pool opened on schedule, Memorial Day weekend, with staff taking orders from the deck on day one.

A deadline that does not move

Pools open when the calendar says, not when construction is convenient. In spring 2024, the club's new pool had a fixed date, Memorial Day weekend, and a technology wish list it had never carried before: WiFi across the whole deck, point-of-sale at the pool, tablets for taking orders where the members actually sit. Construction timelines wobble. That date did not.

IT at the blueprint table

Edward Technology was in the project from the planning stage, consulting alongside the club and its construction team for three months, specifying where network drops would land and where access points would mount, straight off the plans. Everything was greenfield: no legacy poolside technology, no compromises inherited from an old setup. Every choice could be made for the environment it would live in.

WiFi over water

A pool deck is a hostile place for a network: open air, direct summer sun, splash zones, and a full season's crowd of phones all arriving at once. The build used six outdoor-rated access points, mounted and placed for coverage across the deck, with two point-of-sale terminals, eight ordering tablets, and two receipt printers riding on the network behind them.

The installation itself was uneventful. No rush, no hiccups, no war story. That is not luck, that is what three months at the blueprint table buys. The best infrastructure projects are the boring ones.

The results: ordering from the deck, day one

The pool opened on schedule, Memorial Day weekend, with staff taking orders poolside from the first afternoon, a capability the club never had before this build. And Barrington Hills Country Club remains an Edward Technology client today.

Building something new?

The cheapest time to get the network right is before the walls close. If there is a build-out, expansion, or renovation on your calendar, call 847.737.8111, or start with the complimentary onsite evaluation and bring the blueprints.
