Scanning versus testing

Vulnerability scans run on a schedule and catch missing patches, weak configurations, and exposed services as they appear. Penetration testing goes further: a controlled, scoped attempt to actually get in. Most businesses need scheduled scanning as the baseline, with testing at milestones like an insurance renewal or a big network change.

What a scan actually finds

Missing patches. Services exposed to the internet that should not be. Weak or default passwords on printers, cameras, and forgotten devices. Old remote-access tools nobody remembers installing. The scanner does not judge. It lists doors, and every one on the list is a door an attacker can find too.
