How 26 People Left a Chicago Law Firm and Had Email Running in Four Hours
When 26 people walked out of a 50-person downtown Chicago personal injury firm to form a new practice, Edward Technology stood up the new firm's complete IT, 26 computers, two servers, email, and practice management software, in a temporary office, in about one day. Email was live roughly four hours in. Both firms kept working.

The challenge: three days' notice, one day to build
The heads-up came in a single phone call: in three days, 26 people were leaving to form a new practice, and everything had to work on day one. Computers, servers, email, the software a law office runs on, assembled in a temporary office, for people who needed to practice law the next morning. Courts, deadlines, and clients were not going to wait for an IT project plan.
The method: a firm from scratch, overnight
Twenty-six computers and two servers, assembled and configured for the temporary office. A new domain purchased and pointed at hosted business email, putting a working inbox in the new firm's hands roughly four hours in, years before Microsoft 365 made this kind of move routine. Practice management software installed. Client files separated cleanly, so each firm kept only its own matters.
The results: two firms, both working
The original practice never stopped. The new 26-person firm was practicing law out of its temporary office within about a day of the build starting, email and all. A firm's worth of IT, stood up in the time most providers take to return the first phone call.
