Seven Questions to Ask Before Signing With Any IT Company

Choosing an IT company from proposals is like choosing a restaurant from menus with no prices and no reviews. These seven questions cut through, and the pattern in the answers matters more than any single one. Bring them to every provider you interview, including us.
1. Why do you require a contract?
There is no answer to this question that flatters the provider. Month-to-month means the business gets re-earned constantly. A multi-year contract with exit penalties means the provider is protecting itself from its own service.
2. What is not included in the monthly rate?
Ask for the list in writing. Trip fees, onboarding charges, after-hours multipliers, per-ticket costs, and project minimums live in that list. A truly flat rate produces a short answer.
3. Who answers when my employee calls?
An engineer who can fix things, or a dispatcher who creates tickets? Ask to call the support line before signing and hear for yourself.
4. How do you prove patching happened?
Anyone can say machines get updated. Ask for a sample compliance report. Providers who verify have one within reach; providers who do not will describe a philosophy.
5. When did you last test a restore for a client?
Not run a backup. Restore one. The pause before the answer tells you everything about where your data stands on a bad day.
6. What happens if we leave?
Offboarding reveals character. You want documented credentials handed over, admin access transferred, and no hostage-taking. Ask how the last departure went.
7. What will you not do?
Honest providers have a clear answer, because focus is where quality comes from. Providers who claim everything usually deliver the average of it.
